The PhD programme in Economic History and History of Economic Thought. Firms, Institutions, and Cultures responds to a scientific and educational project that aims to provide methods and skills useful for doing research in the fundamental areas in which Economic History and History of Economic Thought are divided:
– economic history, with reference to transformations in economic systems and areas such as agriculture, industry, banking and finance, trade, technologies and mobility, population, resources and the environment, including in micro-historical terms;
– the history of economic thought, with reference to the developments over time and space of economic theories, ideas and schools, in relation to the scientific, institutional and cultural context in which they were formulated, the transmission of economic knowledge through writings, and the interrelationships between theories and economic policy interventions, including from a comparative perspective;
– the history of business and labor, with reference to the evolution of enterprises and the role of actors (entrepreneurs, managers, etc.), labor markets and socio-demographic dynamics, labor organization and technological innovations, regulation of labor relations and industrial relations, and welfare systems.
PhD students will be required to participate in training activities up to a maximum of 250 actual hours during the three-year programme.
A graduate degree or equivalent degree obtained abroad is required for admission to the PhD programme.
Graduating candidates may also take the admission test. In case of suitable placement in the ranking list, they will be eligible for admission to the PhD programme if they graduate by the deadline of October 31, 2025.
Adequate English proficiency is required of all candidates.
