Presentation

The Italian Association for the History of Political Economy (STOREP) is pleased to announce the third edition of the STOREP European Summer School (SESS) from September 6 to September 16, 2007.

SESS is organized by STOREP in collaboration with the University of Padova and the Association “Amici Università di Padova/Freunde der Universität Padua ” in Bressanone/Brixen and is held at the Accademia Cusano/Cusanus Akademie, piazza Seminario n. 2. Bressanone/Brixen is a small South Tyrol city located in the valley of Isarc river and surrounded by the beautiful Dolomiti mountains. The official language of SESS is English.

The main aims of the STOREP European Summer School are:

- to provide advanced training for postgraduate students in economics of any orientation and field of specialization;

- to broaden the horizons of young economists on the relevance of the history of political economy for a better comprehension and further advancement of contemporary economics;

- to allow young economists to meet fellows and scholars from different countries with different backgrounds and aspirations but with the same research interests in the wide field of political economy or related disciplines.

The lectures of the 2007 edition will be devoted to:

Post-Keynesian Theories of Accumulation

Theory and Institutions of Equity Markets

20th Century Transformations of Microeconomics

Alfred Marshall and the Historical School

A Post-Mortem on Keynesian Economics

Laws and Models in Economic Theory

 

Lectures and seminars will be given by:

Geoff Harcourt (University of Cambridge, UK) 

Jan Kregel (UNDESA, United Nations, New York , and Tallinn University of Technology, Estonia)

Axel Leijonhufvud (University of California at Los Angeles, UCLA and Università di Trento)

Tamotsu Nishizawa (Institute of Economic Research, Hitotsubashi University, Japan)

Andrea Salanti (University of Bergamo, Italy)

Ulrich Witt (Max Planck Institute and University of Jena, Germany)

Students are expected to discuss their dissertations or current work. They will present dissertation projects, first draft of dissertation chapters or newly completed papers in panel sessions. Private consultations with lecturers are also scheduled.


Admissions

The workshop is targeted to PhD students, post-doctorates and young economists of any orientation and field of specialization. Each student is expected to give a presentation on his/her doctoral work or current research. Please submit:

i) an abridged CV;
ii) a brief statement about your dissertation or research;
iii) a letter of reference from your supervisor or equivalent;
iv) the application form

Tuitions Fees and Accommodation

SESS is funded partly by sponsors and partly by tuition fees. The tuition fee for the 2007 edition is €450.=. The fee will cover full accommodation at the Accademia Cusano/Cusanus Akademie, Piazza Seminario 2, Bressanone/Brixen (http://www.cusanus.bz.it/) where all activities will be held plus materials and leisure activities. The fee shall be paid in two instalments: 1st instalment of €250 by June 20, 2007; 2nd instalment of €200 on arrival at the Accademia Cusano.


Travel Fellowships

An number of fellowships designed to cover travel expenses are available for qualified students from distant countries.

How to reach Bressanone/Brixen:  

Closest airports:
Innsbruck ( Austria ); Verona ; Munich ( Germany ); Venezia; Milano; (Linate or Malpensa); Brescia .

 

By plane + train:
If your flight is to VERONA : take the train from VERONA/PORTA NUOVA to BRESSANONE. Frequency of trains: one per hour; averaged duration: 2:10 h.;
If your flight is to MUNICH (GERMANY): take the train from München Hbf to BRESSANONE via INNSBRUCK/BRENNERO. Frequency of trains: one per two hours; averaged duration: 3:30 h.
If your flight is to MILANO: take the train from MILANO/STAZIONE CENTRALE to BRESSANONE via VERONA . Frequency of trains: one per hour; averaged duration: 3:50 h; possible changes: Verona .
If your flight is to VENEZIA: take the train from VENEZIA/MESTRE to BRESSANONE via VERONA . Frequency of trains: almost one per hour; averaged duration: 3:50 h.; possible changes: Verona .

Participants are expected in Bressanone/Brixen on the 6th of September for the 8pm Welcome cocktail & dinner at the Hotel Grüner Baum and will depart after breakfast on the 16th of September after the Certificates-&-farewell dinner to be held at the same hotel in the night between the 15th and the 16th of September.
