Siracusa is one of the most beautiful cities in the world. Its territory encompasses more than three thousand years of history. The old town is situated on the island of Ortigia, which offers a wonderful view of the white beaches of the coast of Siracusa and the emerald sea. The Piazza Duomo is surrounded by many baroque palaces in a gleaming white stone. The Church of the Duomo is built on ancient Temple of Minerva of which the Doric columns are visible. The Church of St. Lucia hold the Caravaggio painting “Burial of Saint Lucy”. In the Archaeological Park, in the north of the city, you can admire the Roman Amphitheatre, the Altar of Hieron, the Greek Theatre, the Latomie of Paradise, the Rope Makers Cave and the Ear of Dionysius. Do not forget to taste the famous granita toasted almonds, eaten outdoors with a hot sandwich.
