STOREP 2017 invited speaker L. Randall Wray (website) is a professor of economics at Bard College. His current research focuses on providing a critique of orthodox monetary theory and policy, and the development of an alternative approach. He also publishes extensively in the areas of full employment policy and, more generally, fiscal policy. With President Dimitri B. Papadimitriou, he is working to publish, or republish, the work of the late financial economist Hyman P. Minsky, and is using Minsky’s approach to analyze the current global financial crisis. Wray’s most recent book is Why Minsky Matters: An Introduction to the Work of a Maverick Economist (Princeton University Press, 2016).
Wray is the author of Money and Credit in Capitalist Economies: The Endogenous Money Approach (Edward Elgar, 1990), Understanding Modern Money: The Key to Full Employment and Price Stability (Edward Elgar, 1998), The Rise and Fall of Money Manager Capitalism: Minsky’s Half Century from World War Two to the Great Recession (with É. Tymoigne; Routledge, 2013), and Modern Money Theory: A Primer on Macroeconomics for Sovereign Monetary Systems (Palgrave Macmillan, 2012; 2nd rev. ed., 2015). He is also coeditor of, and a contributor to, Money, Financial Instability, and Stabilization Policy (Edward Elgar, 2006) and Keynes for the 21st Century: The Continuing Relevance of The General Theory (Palgrave Macmillan, 2008).
Wray taught at the University of Missouri–Kansas City from 1999 to 2016 and at the University of Denver from 1987 to 1999, and has been a visiting professor at the Universities of Paris and Rome (La Sapienza). He holds a BA from the University of the Pacific and an MA and a Ph.D. from Washington University, where he was a student of Minsky. He has recently completed a Fulbright Specialist Grant at the Tallinn University of Technology in Estonia.
STOREP 2017 invited speaker Pietro Alessandrini (website) is professor emeritus of Economic Policy at the Faculty of Economics “Giorgio Fuà” of Università Politecnica delle Marche, where he teaches Monetary Economics and has taught European Monetary Policy until 2014.
He has been a Stringher (1970), Einaudi (1971; both from Bank of Italy), and Marco Fanno (1972, from Mediocredito Centrale) scholarships recipient, and has been doing research at the Servizio Studi of Banca d’Italia (1970-74), as well as at Oxford University, Trinity College (Dublin), Cambridge University and World Bank (Washington).
Head of the Department of Economics between 1985 and 1988, as well as Dean of the Faculty of Economics between 1988 and 1991, Alessandrini has been Secretary-general (1992-98) and then Deputy of the Società Italiana degli Economisti (1999-2002). He has also served as editor of Rivista Italiana degli Economisti between the mid-Nineties and the Noughties. He is among the founders of MoFiR (Money and Finance Research group), and is President of the Fondazione Giorgio Fuà (since 2013) as well as member of the Board of Directors of the Cassa di risparmio di Fano (since 2014).
His research interests focus on the Italian financial system, the relationships between firms and banks, the international monetary system, the European monetary Policy, industrial districts, demographic evolution, regional planning.
His latest books are “Viaggio nell’economia” (written with Giulia Bettin and Mario Pepe, 2013), and “Economia e Politica della Moneta. Nel labirinto della Finanza” (2015, both published by Il Mulino, Bologna).
STOREP 2017 invited speaker Francesco Daveri (website) is a full professor of Economic Policy at UCSC (Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore, Piacenza campus), where he teaches Macroeconomic Scenarios for Managers, International Finance, International Economics and Monetary Economics.
He has previously taught and held positions at the Università di Parma and Brescia, as well as at Università Statale di Milano, Modena, Munich, Roma (Tor Vergata). He is also a visiting professor of Macroeconomics in the MBA program of SDA Bocconi e in the EMBA at the Università della Svizzera Italiana.
His research activity in the last fifteen years has been mostly focused on the relation between economic policy, labor markets and the firm and industry productivity dynamics in Italy, Europe and the United States. On these issues he served as a consultant for the World Bank, the European Commission and Italy’s Ministry of the Economy. He is a member of the Consiglio di reggenza of the Bank of Italy (Emilia-Romagna branch) and of the Sustainability Committee of Eurizon Capital.
He is a columnist of Corriere della Sera and a member of the managing board of the economic policy website LaVoce.info.
STOREP 2017 invited speaker Domenico Delli Gatti is Full Professor of Economics at the Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore, Milan, Faculty of Economics, where he teaches Monetary Economics and Asset Pricing, as well as Political Economy of the European Union. Currently a member of the Executive Board of the Ph.D. in Economics of his university, as well as of DEFAP (Ph.D. in Public Economics), he has been doing research as visiting at Columbia University (2005-2010), Santa Fe Institute (2004), University of California in Santa Cruz (1997), Jerome Levy Economics Institute (New York, 1995-1996), New School for Social Research New York (1995), Stanford University (1990 and 1991), Massachusetts Institute of Technology (1989), University of Cambridge (UK), Faculty of Economics and Politics (1988 and 1990), Washington University in Saint Louis (Missouri, 1987-1988).
He has been European Coordinator of the Seventh Framework Programme (7th FP) research project: “Monetary, Fiscal and Structural Policies with Heterogeneous Agents” (POLHIA), funded by the European Commission (2008-2011), and a Member of the 7th FP research project “Finance, Innovation & Growth” (FINNOV) and “Forecasting Financial Crises” (FOC).
